Get Glowing Skin, With Food!

One of your easiest and most natural sources for skin glow is using home remedies, if you work one of these recipes in regularly with your skincare regimen you should see results within a few weeks.

A glow on the skin communicates a healthy person from inside and outside. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink 2-3 liters of plain water in a day to keep the body hydrated Furthermore for your skins well being, use the face mixes/masks made from these 6 foods to get that glow!
  • Cucumber - It is the skin’s “best friend”. It replaces the dull skin with striking glowing skin. Grate one cucumber and squeeze out its juice. Dab this freshly prepared cucumber juice on the face and neck with a cotton ball. And put the left behind grated cucumber on the eyes. Re-apply the juice on the skin 2-3 times in the span of 20 minutes. Later wash the skin water. Use it everyday for that wonderful glow on the face.
  • Egg Yolk - The yellow part of the egg called as egg yolk is excellent for skin glow. To one egg yolk mix ½ olive oil and 4-5 drops of lemon. Apply it on the skin. Keep it for 15 minutes and rinse it off. In case the mix dries up prior to the set time of 15 minutes then also wash it off. Egg packs must be cleaned immediately once it dries up else it stretches the skin and can lead to fine wrinkles. So be sure to wash the face as soon as the mask dries. It is best for dry to normal skin.
  • Avocado - It is a nutrient-rich fruit. It leaves the skin well nourished and moisturized. Take one fully ripened avocado and mash it thoroughly. To this add ½ teaspoon fresh lemon juice. Mix well. Smear this paste on face and neck. Leave on for 10 minutes, then after rinse it off.
  • Banana - This fruit when mixed with honey gives instant glow. Take one tablespoon well mashed fully ripened banana and ½ teaspoon honey. Mix both together and apply it on the face. Then after 15 minutes clean skin with lukewarm water. This can be used once every two days for best results.
  • Coconut Milk - Coconut has recently become wildly popular in the health and beauty world! Take advantage of all this 'nuts' goodness. Freshly prepared coconut milk does wonders for the skin. In 2 tablespoon concentrated coconut milk add 1 teaspoon sandalwood powder. Mix both well. Using a flat brush apply the mixture on the face. Allow it to dry and after 15 minutes sponge down the mixture from the skin. This works on all the skin tones.
  • Orange - It is a good source of ingredients that assist for getting the skin glow. Take out the juice of half orange. To this add 2 teaspoon of curd and mix well. Apply the mixture on the face and leave it as it is. In the course of 20 minutes orange juice and curd shall penetrate deep inside the skin layers and fulfill all skin nutrient requirements. Later rinse the applied mix and pat dry the skin. Glow shall come on the skin with regular use.
There are hundreds of different combinations of fresh foods that make great masks and treatments for the skin!

Beauty Blender Review

Yes, I gave into the hype that is known as the Beauty Blender sponge. I was dying to know if it was really the best sponge out there.

Two for $25 ?!

I usually buy a pack of 32 Non-latex spade sponges from Quo for around $4-$7 so I consider these two pink egg shaped sponges to be a high risk investment if they don't work out. I opted to not purchase the Beauty Blender specific cleanser. I read numerous reviews and looked up the ingredients and determined it would be easy enough to clean them with my regular cleaner.

The sponge does feel really firm at first but once you run it under warm water for a few seconds it softens up and almost doubles in size!

The bright pink hue doesn't last long as it does stain easily but I've cleaned it properly so I know
It's just colour left behind from product, not bacteria.

This product is meant to be used to dab foundation or concealer on the skin, don't rub or you won't get the desired results.

The shape is convenient for getting into smaller area or using the round end to get faster coverage.

It does seem to suck up a lot of product, which a sponge is expected to use more product than a foundation brush, but the result is very similar to an airbrush.

Overall I have ended up using the Beauty Blender just for my personal makeup, while I think it's a great product it's not practical to have one or two in my kit when I could be working on multiple clients per day. That's where my disposable sponges come in handy. I have had my current beauty blender for 3 months and plan to use it for 6 months before retiring it and opening up the 2nd one. So for $50 a year I get a higher end foundation sponge it's worth it to me!

How To: Depot Your Lipstick

I have about 50+ tubes of half used lipsticks in my kit. I needed something a litle more practical to carry with me to a shoot and still be able to have as many options as possible...

I bought this on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $10.80 (Reg $18.00) I figured it was small enough to experiment with and toss in my purse for travel or Bridal. It comes with everything you need and I'll re-use the other tools when I do my major depot for my kit.

This case only has 8 small wells. You can buy larger cases from craft stores or Japonesque sells a variety of empty lipstick palettes.

You'll also need a knife and cutting board to actually cut the lipstick to be put into the flexible microwave safe bowl.

For this particular sized palette I cut a chunk of lipstick off about the sie of my thumbnail.

Put it in your microwave safe bowl.

I have a tiny microwave, so 60 seconds was perfect. If you have a normal sized microwave start with 30 seconds if its not liquified by then, keep going in 15 second intervals. *You don't want it to boil or you'll ruin the lipstick.

It should be a water like consistency, the bowl will be hot, but you should try and pour it into the palette well as soon as possible to avoid it getting chunky.

Continue the steps until all of the wells are filled! The lipstick is good to use within about 30 minutes, or you can stick it in the fridge to use in about 10. * I used the red lipstick, looks just the same as when I used it straight from the tube, meaning that heating it up did not change the quality of it!

  • You can also mix and match to make a custom colour mixing as many colours as you'd like. Just make sure you adjust the portion sizes appropriately.
HAPPY DEPOTING!

The lipsticks shown are by Ben Nye: Russian Red, Desert Rose, & Blush

My Makeup Pet Peeve #1

Beauty So Clean

You may have watched video for My Makeup Pet Peeve #1 on YouTube

...and saw me show you an awesome product for keeping your kit sanitary and bacteria free! Beauty So Clean offers and quick and relatively inexpensive way to keep germs from breeding inside your make up kit. I had heard about this and was a bit skeptical because I'm always worried about cleaning products ruining my makeups quality.

Anti Bacterial Wipes x 48 for $20.00 CAD - They come in one box, but are individually packaged. These are perfect for lipsticks, lipglosses, and eye/lip liner pencils (I would just sharpen my liner pencil to conserve the wipes it does just as good of a job of taking care of any germs or bacteria)

Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist 8ml (0.27 fl. oz) x 2 for $20.00 CAD - This mini spritzer is perfect for travel and stuffing into your kit it cleans pressed powders, eyeshadows, blushes and the like. Its also great for cream based concealers and foundations. This is a super must buy! Truly a revolutionary product.

Conditioning Brush Cleaner (125ml) for $20.00 CAD - This brush cleaner is safe for synthetic and natural brushes. I do find it to be a bit harsh although it claims to be conditioning. I use this once a month on my brushes, and 99% alcohol after each use, then a mild baby shampoo once a week to keep my brushes soft and clean.

A fantastic Canadian Product! I highly recommend them. In Victoria BC they are now available at London Drugs most other provinces have to buy them online. They do have international partners so check their website for more details!

This stuff is SO good. I also like that one is tinted and one isn't so I can decide if I want to look a little fancy, or just keep my lips soft and hydrated. They  have a SPF of 15 which is nice too for a little extra protection from the sun.

If you aren't already a Beauty Insider member I suggest to join by going to Sephora's Website and signing up or go to any local Sephora and see one of their beauty experts. There are lots of great perks. Check it out for more details!
