How To: Depot Your Lipstick

I have about 50+ tubes of half used lipsticks in my kit. I needed something a litle more practical to carry with me to a shoot and still be able to have as many options as possible...

I bought this on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $10.80 (Reg $18.00) I figured it was small enough to experiment with and toss in my purse for travel or Bridal. It comes with everything you need and I'll re-use the other tools when I do my major depot for my kit.

This case only has 8 small wells. You can buy larger cases from craft stores or Japonesque sells a variety of empty lipstick palettes.

You'll also need a knife and cutting board to actually cut the lipstick to be put into the flexible microwave safe bowl.

For this particular sized palette I cut a chunk of lipstick off about the sie of my thumbnail.

Put it in your microwave safe bowl.

I have a tiny microwave, so 60 seconds was perfect. If you have a normal sized microwave start with 30 seconds if its not liquified by then, keep going in 15 second intervals. *You don't want it to boil or you'll ruin the lipstick.

It should be a water like consistency, the bowl will be hot, but you should try and pour it into the palette well as soon as possible to avoid it getting chunky.

Continue the steps until all of the wells are filled! The lipstick is good to use within about 30 minutes, or you can stick it in the fridge to use in about 10. * I used the red lipstick, looks just the same as when I used it straight from the tube, meaning that heating it up did not change the quality of it!

  • You can also mix and match to make a custom colour mixing as many colours as you'd like. Just make sure you adjust the portion sizes appropriately.
HAPPY DEPOTING!

My Makeup Pet Peeve #1

Beauty So Clean

You may have watched video for My Makeup Pet Peeve #1 on YouTube

...and saw me show you an awesome product for keeping your kit sanitary and bacteria free! Beauty So Clean offers and quick and relatively inexpensive way to keep germs from breeding inside your make up kit. I had heard about this and was a bit skeptical because I'm always worried about cleaning products ruining my makeups quality.

Anti Bacterial Wipes x 48 for $20.00 CAD - They come in one box, but are individually packaged. These are perfect for lipsticks, lipglosses, and eye/lip liner pencils (I would just sharpen my liner pencil to conserve the wipes it does just as good of a job of taking care of any germs or bacteria)

Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist 8ml (0.27 fl. oz) x 2 for $20.00 CAD - This mini spritzer is perfect for travel and stuffing into your kit it cleans pressed powders, eyeshadows, blushes and the like. Its also great for cream based concealers and foundations. This is a super must buy! Truly a revolutionary product.

Conditioning Brush Cleaner (125ml) for $20.00 CAD - This brush cleaner is safe for synthetic and natural brushes. I do find it to be a bit harsh although it claims to be conditioning. I use this once a month on my brushes, and 99% alcohol after each use, then a mild baby shampoo once a week to keep my brushes soft and clean.

A fantastic Canadian Product! I highly recommend them. In Victoria BC they are now available at London Drugs most other provinces have to buy them online. They do have international partners so check their website for more details!
